Your 12-Month IT Checklist for Business Growth

November 4, 2025

Your business is growing. That's great! But is your tech keeping up, or is it about to break down at the worst possible moment?

Here's your year-long IT checklist. Tackle one thing each month, and you'll avoid disasters before they happen.

January: Password Cleanup

Change your important passwords. Use a password manager like LastPass or 1Password. Stop reusing "Summer2019!" everywhere.

February: Backup Check

When's the last time you checked if your backups actually work? Test them. Make sure your data isn't just backing up into the void.

March: Software Updates

Update everything. Your operating system, apps, plugins. Those "remind me later" notifications? Stop ignoring them.

April: Clean Out Your Files

Delete old files you don't need. Organize what's left. Your computer will run faster, and you'll actually find things.

May: Review Your Subscriptions

You're probably paying for software you forgot about. Check your credit card statements and cancel what you don't use.

June: Security Training

Spend 30 minutes teaching your team about phishing emails. It's the number one way businesses get hacked, and it's completely preventable.

July: Check Your Internet Speed

Are you paying for fast internet but getting slow speeds? Run a speed test. Call your provider if something's off.

August: Mobile Device Check

Update your phone and tablet. Delete apps you never use. Make sure they're backed up to the cloud.

September: Website Maintenance

Check your website for broken links. Make sure it loads fast. Test it on your phone. If it looks bad, fix it.

October: Review User Access

Who has access to what? Remove access for people who've left. Make sure new employees only see what they need.

November: Plan for Next Year

What tech frustrated you this year? Budget for replacements or upgrades. Don't wait until something breaks.

December: Documentation Update

Write down your passwords, software licenses, and important contacts. Put it somewhere safe. Future you will be grateful.

The Bottom Line

You don't need to be a tech expert. You just need to stay one step ahead of problems. Pick a day each month, set a reminder, and work through this list. Your business will run smoother, and you'll sleep better knowing things won't fall apart overnight.
